RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026 marks another milestone in Katerina’s work as a London garden designer. This garden has been thoughtfully designed for a well-travelled, retired creative couple with a deep passion for horticulture and the arts. Serving as both a private sanctuary and a welcoming space for friends and family, it offers an environment where gardening techniques, travel experiences and family traditions are shared.

The space encourages nurturing, with a curated selection of flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruit arranged within a compact layout. Drawing on insights from previous gardens and travels near and far, the balcony represents a culmination of learning, exploration and a desire to pass on knowledge, particularly to younger family members.

Having recently downsized to a London townhouse to be closer to cultural events, the imagined couple remains deeply committed to gardening. Their balcony garden fosters intergenerational connections, supports the sharing of stories and skills and stands as a living legacy.

From concept to Chelsea

The garden began as an idea about what a small space could hold - not just plants, but meaning.

Months of planning, sourcing and building went into every detail. The site was visited long before a single plant went in. Materials were chosen for their warmth, durability and sustainability. A team of trusted suppliers and contractors brought every element to life, working together through the full Chelsea build week.

From an empty plot to a Gold Medal garden - this is what the journey looked like.

The Results

A Little Garden of Shared Knowledge was awarded a Gold Medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show - followed by Best in Show for Balcony & Container Garden. Two of the most prestigious awards in garden design, won at the most prestigious show in the world.

The garden was also featured on the BBC's Chelsea Flower Show coverage, reaching a national audience and shining a light on what thoughtful small-space design can achieve.

It proved something that underpins every project Katerina takes on - that even the smallest urban space can be productive, beautiful and full of meaning.
