Crystal Palace Garden Design, South London

Shaped through movement and structure, this garden unfolds as a series of spaces that flow seamlessly from house to garden.

Crystal Palace Garden of Flowing Spaces

A considered redesign introduces movement, structure and a seamless connection between home and garden. Gentle curves in the planting soften angular features, while a clear pathway from the kitchen creates an easy, practical flow through the space.

The plan incorporated gentle curves in the planting beds, contrasted by angular features, such as raised beds on the patio and a main pathway that added a sense of movement and flow to the space.

A key aim was to blur the boundaries between inside and out, so it felt like one seamless space. We ensured there was a direct path from the kitchen to the patio, which now means the clients can walk from the end of the garden without dragging mud inside the new kitchen!

The new layout also created three ‘garden rooms’, each with a different function. The first is a cosy patio with easy-to-clean, built-in benches, perfect for a coffee or evening chill. The second is the main garden, filled with plants and textures for a lush, sensory experience.

The third leads to the back of the garden, where a gazebo sits among the bamboo. “The gazebo was already there – it just needed sprucing up a bit – and is a peaceful hideaway, perfect for escaping to when the weather’s not great.
