Sophisticated and contemporary in Mill Hill

DESIGN APPROACH

Garden Project Location: Mill Hill, London

This was a project for a family of six who lived in a new build, within a busy development in Mill Hill.

Overlooked by multiple houses and overgrown with bamboo and cheap planting, the garden plot was also an awkward triangular shape and the family were perplexed as to what they could do with it to make it work for them.

What they really wanted was an outdoor space that all the family could enjoy and be proud of. They also wished to have the chance to entertain and have friends and family over to spend time with them outdoors too. They ideally wanted a modern style garden, with three different seating areas.

Now, as you step out into the garden, you’re greeted by a large patio, raised bed and floating bench. Here the family can place a table and create a dining area that can be enjoyed at any time of the day. Close by is a tall water feature, created so that it can be seen from anywhere in the garden. A zig zag path then connects the front of the garden through to the back.

In the middle, decking provides an additional seating area, whilst at the back, there’s a sunken pergola area for those late nights entertaining. Planting was architectural, evergreen and colourful to provide interest all year round, as well as a low-maintenance garden.

Lighting

Subtle lighting makes such an impact. During the autumn/winter months the lighting softly illuminates the planting and provides a warm glow to the garden. Add a firepit and during those late summer evenings with a glass of wine, what a way to spend time in the garden.
